Four inches (of the 22" long blades) must remain in the 24-inch case to provide adquate leverage for keeping the blades level when full extended. This leaves 18 inches for measure marks on each blade, making the total length of the tool when extended, six feet (24" + 18" + 18").
The present design has the "lock screwz' of the large blade tightening down ont eh small blade which begins its travel after the large blade is ful extended. But the rear of the small blade (in closed position) rests at 2" from the front of the case. This means that the screw of the large blade (when the blade is at full extension) can only be tightened down in the first tow inches at the front of the case.
The present design shows the lock tightening further back than 2" from the front when the large blade is at full extension. Therefore it locks down on the small blade which now is supposed to be free to extend.
